At Mereside Nursery, we are committed to providing an inclusive, supportive and nurturing environment where all children are valued and encouraged to reach their full potential.

We recognise that some children may have special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) and we work closely in partnership with parents and carers to ensure that each child’s individual needs are met. Our practice follows the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework and the SEND Code of Practice (2015).

Children’s learning and development are carefully observed, assessed and planned for, enabling us to identify any additional needs as early as possible. We use a range of assessment tools, including WellComm communication assessments, to support early identification of speech, language and communication needs.

Mereside Nursery follows the graduated approach of assess, plan, do and review to ensure support is tailored to each child’s individual needs. Strategies and interventions are regularly reviewed in partnership with parents, the school SENCO Manager and other professionals to ensure progress is monitored and support remains effective.

We work closely with Blackpool Council, including the Area SENCO and Early Years Advisory Teachers, as well as other relevant professionals where appropriate, to ensure children and families receive appropriate guidance and support.

Mereside Nursery has a designated Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO) who oversee SEND provision, supports staff and acts as a key point of contact for families and professionals. We believe that open communication and strong partnerships are key to achieving the best outcomes for children.

At Mereside Nursery we aim to create a welcoming and inclusive environment where all children feel safe, respected and confident and where individual differences are recognised and celebrated.
